Somewhere along the way I discovered The Guild episodes. They are sooOOOooo funny. The characters and production are great.
My favorite moment:
“So an epic dagger dropped for me today”
…
Of course you have to check out the other things on The Guild website. This led me to the Producer Kim Evey’s series 2 Hot Girls in the Shower. (Warning: May not be appropriate for work…but if you didn’t get that from the title you’re dumb. I am just saying.) I laughed so hard I had to take a break.
… Normally I click on youtube’s “Related Videos” in this case I was scared.
Welcome friends.
I have a secret that I have been keeping form you for quite a while. You may or may not know that I, Aurum, am an officer in Farstriders Elite. The co-guild leader will be absent for a while, he asked ME to be his replacement. I don’t think I am up to the job, I still have a lot to learn.
FE is a guild with over 150 accounts and over 220 toons. Not all are twinks, we have toons in guild who are friends on other servers that pop in to say “Hi. Good game”.
This is a twink guild of good players. Some have transferred from different servers. They are located across the states and international (we need more on Vent from England and New Zealand IMO.)
We are known mostly for running level 19s, but are growing in the level 29 bracket, and have recruited some strong 39s.
But where do you find information on “How to run a Twink Guild?” You don’t. I have looked up and down and really we are in a unique situation here.
In the Emberstorm battlegroup, there is WKP where it is run like a Stalinistic Regime, DTK view themselves like a family, and JoAT seems to be more like a business. Where does FE stand… by committee of equals.
With the number of players we have, no one person can see everything. So officers will meet and a name will pop up and all the stories come out of the woodwork. My favorite line in a meeting is always “I don’t know why but TwinkName leaves a bad feeling.” Where we all dig up stories about TwinkName and we assess if they are removed from the guild.
Our gear standards are extremely high. This part I am having a really hard time with in general. Your first twink is a hard thing to do. Many settle for second best. It is also not cheep.
The issue is that FE is not “second best” it expects THE BEST.
*checks in bags for PvP gear*
So a 19 hunter with 4/5 Eagle pants and not the 5/5 Eagles will have a ding against them. They have to explain the 5/5s are in bank and are saving up for the Nethercleft Leg Armor. Don’t get the others started if you show up in Blackened Defias Leggings. *shiver*
*pulls out blades and sharpens them for battle*
So I am making mistakes and learning from them.
*charges into mid-field to test her newly sharpen blades*
Maybe if I am not too embarrassed by my mistakes I will share them with you.
*caps one flag*
… maybe.
*returns two flags*
But remember I am just a well geared bank toon.
*wipes the blood off her cheek*
What SSC looks like before we start ...
What it look like after we have been fishing for a while…
Husband showed up with his newly enchanted fist weapon. I don’t see any Spell Damage. I was not all that impressed. I did make the appropriate cooing noises.
Note to everyone: Jumping on the down elevator makes it go faster. Jumping on the up elevator will make it go slower. Just try it you will see what I am saying.
Then we got down to business on Lurker. Running around in circles. Dieing together. Running back. Modify stuff. Dieing again. Changing some things up. More dieing.
It goes out…
“This is the last attempt”
We have dead fish.
Way to go WM!!
A tank picked up the Mallet of the Tides. Something that we sharded also dropped. I took The Seal of Danzalar because no one else wanted it. It was going to be sharded if I didn't. It has 21 resilience rating. Which is better then the zero my current rings I use for PvP have. *grin* So there goes my slowly building DKP.
It was a pretty clean first kill.
We are so getting spoiled with all these bosses down. I did hear something that made me happy. We are going to start FARMING these new bosses. This is a relief to me because I will then not feel like I have to attend them all. I don’t need to be, no one has said that, but having a completely different group each attempt to down a boss can be a real setback.
So bring on the farming!
P.S. Wowjutsu says that WM is 5th on our server now. But as a guild we have not taken down Leo and Tidewalker. I am sure that will be true soon. *glee*
Hydross the Unstable went down the first night.
Three new bosses down in one week! The War Machine is rolling.
Our Destro Lock (who is now Affliction) put together a video from our Al'ar Kill.
3/4 for The Eye (Right? That’s what all the real raiders say.) It was our first night to attempt High Astromancer Solarian. Just the fact that she is a Mage wearing Warlock clothes she needs to die. She obviously needs to learn to pick gear appropriate for her class.
Girdle of the Righteous Path, Worldstorm Gauntlets, Heartrazor, and Plans: Red Havoc Boots dropped on this first kill. Husband picked up the Heartrazor.
In guild Warlock news…
We have down Void Reaver a few times. I wasn’t there for the first kill but was there for the second.
The raid nights scheduled to go to The Eye we have been lacking members to fill the 25-man raid and meet class balance. There have been a few glass eating attempts on Al’ar, like after our Gruul’s/Mag’s Lair on Monday.
On our scheduled night we attempted Al’ar, the Phoenix God, again.
This was only my third attempt at seeing this fight. The first time our goal was to just make it to phase two… which we did. Last Monday was to just get another look and learn something… which we did.
Our tanks would tank dance the platforms.
Our only hunter brought the adds to the add tank.
With no ranged threat table on Al’ar for phase one we cranked it out.
Mages were assigned to take out the adds at the beginning of phase two. They died. It was a wipe.
*snicker*
Move over Mages… here come the professionals.
SEED!!
Seeding has elegance to it. Seeing the four locks seed the adds…watching them all pop at once.
*grin*
Is a lovely sight.
In phase one, I position myself between platform 1& 2 then move between 3 & 4. This allowed me to not have a Shadow Bolt cut off when Al’ar moved between the platforms.
We lost tanks. I know a few times it was LOS, but other times I was not sure.
It was messy.
It was intense.
We had a mage DC at the beginning of the forth attempt so there were only 24.
[Vent] It’s a wipe.
But he was at like 5%!!
I Shadow Bolt, CoD, Corruption, UA, Siphon Life my way through the adds and Al’ar. I didn’t even realize my comrades were falling around me.
[Vent] He is at 1%!
The begging, urging, and encouragement in the voices on vent…
On our fourth attempt of the night we downed Al’ar.
We had two tanks, a healer, a mage, and myself left for that last 5%.
[Tank] Locks FTW! Who decided to Soulstone a tank of all people?
The carnage of the raid shocked me. I was so focused, I didn’t even realize so many were down.
Our first loot drop was the Fire Crest Breastplate, Netherbane, and Gloves of the Searing Grip.
Netherbane is not bad looking on me. =)
Our Gnome tank picked up the Netherbane not because he needed it but he was not going to see loot from our first Al’ar kill sharded.
It was an intense 17 minute and 44 seconds.
After a breather, I was told to check out the wowwebstats for the kill.
I was third overall.
I almost broke the 800 dps mark!
Okay that makes it sounds like I have paid attention to that number. This was actually a first time observation.
*grin*
Now I have a benchmark to improve on.
I am doing okay in WM. Sticking to being on time, be prepared, and no drama ideals has helped a lot.
If they only knew what WM warlock chat looked like. I don’t know if they would want to keep me. There was something about killing the Mage next to you, Lock tanking assignments, inflamed rashes, and … something about the inside colors of our robes.
*wave*
Hows it going?
…
Good. Good.
…
Not much around here. I mean not really. Well there was this silly little run Husband had of Gruul’s Lair.
I am not kidding. Yea. He picked up the Malefic Mask of the Shadows as his first ever real raid loot.
Yep. Yep.
Oh and I shouldn’t forget that he also went on a non DKP guild run of Karazhan, where he picked up off the Huntsman the Worgen Claw Necklace. Someone passed on since it was a minor upgrade for them and BIG one for Husband. Then there was also the Girdle of Treachery he picked up out of a chest. AND his 22 Badges of Honor for a complete clear of Kara. Did I mention this run of Kara was done in one night? No. Oh sorry.
Husband did the Oz fight and I watched… that was a lot of fun.
…
Me?
Oh nothing really. I mean my head was so fuzzy I didn’t volunteer for either the Gruul’s or Kara runs this weekend. But I did get called in to help in a group. Very sweet of them. Something about needing a geared warlock (thanks everyone).
Where?
Oh sorry. Some little place called Magtheridon's Lair. My guild had a spot in their glass eating team. Basically it was a “Calling all Warlocks!” campaign.
Glass eating you ask? Well I didn’t know either…and online actually was no help on the term either.
Glass Eating = (my definition) for a large group of people to learn through a tough technical fight. The raid has wipes for different reasons but each time learning form those wipes. Then modifying and improving on the strategies.
I believe this was the third week they tried. But I have been a bad guildie and wasn’t really paying attention.
Interesting thing getting pulled into this raid. I got a call on my home phone, then a call to my cell phone, and once I got on vent it was “Talk to the raid leader now!”. I spoke with the RL and then I was in the line up. Told me about some videos and went to watch them…particularly the cube clicking and banish/fear elements.
Okay…
Here is what happened…
I had 3 videos, about 22 minutes worth. After an hour of watching, re-watching, note taking, created list of questions, print outs, timing and visual cue notes… I started to FLIP out. I had so many scrawls all over my notepad I about had a panic attack. You know I have not done anything bigger then a 5-man?? Now I am on the glass eating Mag’s Lair team?? Someone should have their head examined.
*looks down at her notepad* Maybe not? Maybe they are lucky that they can call on me three hours before the raid and I can be this prepared for a 25-man raid.
But you know… I didn’t do bad. I was slow to click once… I was in the middle of the room banish/fearing and a bad timed quake bounced me away from my cube. But I sure hope that was it… because I didn’t see what else I needed to change. So I underlined my note to self to put my back to the wall in advance.
Deadly Boss Mods helped a LOT with the cube clicking. I had long ago learned I am twitchy with instant DoTs. To combat this affliction (punny… Yea my head is still a bit fuzzy), I target my assigned tank first and use them as my cue instead of the mob. Worked wonders in Mag’s Lair. I do have to figure out how to see if someone else is Banish/Fearing an elemental, because I noticed I was over lapping with other warlocks. This is not an efficient use of time or mana. Didn’t happen often, but I am wondering if it is something that can be easily fixed.
I ate glass for the first time with my guild. I hope they didn’t regret having me. It was pure joy!

For a very long time now, coming on a year, I have been running with the same group of twinky friends. A bunch of months ago two of the twink guilds merged. I was recruited to the twink guilds before the merge, after the formation of Farstriders Elite, I was again being recruited.
As an officer of Wrathbone I wanted to stay in touch with the members and be constantly available for questions. So I fed twinks from Wrathbone to FE and they are some of the best. But I stayed put. With Hydra changing guilds and no longer an officer, that necessity was removed.
The running joke in FE was that there was a bug in the game. They kept inviting me to guild but it kept saying I was already in a guild. Not understanding they opened a ticket with Blizzard, but never received a response to the open ticket. Well in the tradition of taking forever and a day to respond to an open ticket… I am now a member of Farstriders Elite.
Oh top of suddenly becoming Elite, my first time fishing in ages and what should I get but the Lucky Fishing Hat. There are great friends that have been trying for weeks to get it and on the first outing in months it is mine. I told you I needed to get lucky. This just means it will take another year for me to get the boots.
I have also been a busy girl in WSG. I finally broke the 10 thousand lifetime kill marker. This is but a step to the total honor that I will need for my Battle Standard. I still feel like I have so much to learn yet. At 20 thousand I will see if I feel like I know more than I do now.
This weekend also held one loss. That is right just one. As our premade dwindled to Kara and AFK players we went up against We Kill People. It was like swimming upstream in a torrent of arrows and very sharp swords and daggers. We couldn’t even breathe on their healer. They played really good and focused on one of our best players, and not letting any of us move. I don’t think I have ever been concussed and gouged so much in such a short amount of time.
We have work to do in FE… I don’t know how qualified I am to do it … but with the support of the guild we will make a dent.
